TL;DR

  • Meet & greet at DBV arrivals: name board, flight tracking, no desk queue.
  • From €39/day all-inclusive — no airport surcharge, no hidden fees.
  • The Old Town is 20 km away, about a 25-minute drive.
  • Free cancellation up to 48h; no deposit on economy class.
  • Delayed or late-night flight? We wait — pickup follows your landing, not our office hours.

Walk out of the arrivals hall at Dubrovnik Airport and find one of us holding a board with your name on it — that is the whole pickup. Rates start at €39 per day all-inclusive, there is no airport surcharge, and the Old Town is a 25-minute drive up the coast.

How does meet & greet pickup work at DBV?

We meet you in person at the arrivals exit of Dubrovnik Airport (DBV) in Čilipi — no rental desk, no queue, no shuttle bus to an off-site lot. Marko Vlašić, our Airport Desk Lead, tracks every arriving flight, so we are there when you actually land, not when your booking says you should have landed.

Here is the full sequence:

  1. Reserve your car online and enter your flight number at checkout.
  2. On arrival day we monitor that flight from departure to touchdown. You do nothing.
  3. Clear baggage claim, walk out of arrivals, and look for the name board. In summer that is usually Marko himself.
  4. We walk you to the car — parked minutes from the terminal — run through a 5-minute paperwork check and a quick walk-around, hand over the keys, and you drive off.

Bring your driver’s license, the credit card used for booking (or cash — we take both), and your ID or passport. That is everything.

What does it cost to rent a car at the airport?

High-season 2026 rates start at €39 per day for an economy car and top out at €129 per day for a 9-seater van. Every figure below is all-inclusive, so the number you see is the number you pay at the terminal.

Low-season rates (November–April) run roughly 30–40% below the table. If you only drive automatic — most US visitors do — see our automatic rentals. Groups of six or more fit comfortably in the Vivaro on our 9-seater van page, and if the €39 economy rate is what brought you here, our budget options page breaks down how the pricing works.

What’s included in the price?

Everything you need to drive away without reading fine print:

  • Unlimited mileage
  • CDW insurance and theft protection
  • Second driver free
  • 24/7 roadside assistance
  • Free cancellation up to 48 hours before pickup
  • Full-to-full fuel policy
  • No credit-card surcharge

Economy class carries no deposit at all. Other classes hold €200–400 on your card, released in full once the car comes back.

How far is the airport from the Old Town?

About 20 km, or a 25-minute drive along the Adriatic coast — one of the better first drives you will have in Croatia. The airport sits at Čilipi, south of the city; Wikipedia’s page on the airport has the full history and route map. Head north on the D8 coastal road and the walls appear on your left just before you reach town.

One thing to know before you go: the Old Town itself is pedestrian-only. The nearest garage is Ilijina Glavica, and street parking in zones 1–3 is charged. If you are staying inside or near the walls, our Old Town car hire guide covers where to park and what it costs.

Can I pick up the car after hours?

Yes. Airport handovers are scheduled around your landing time, not around our office clock. Our regular hours are 08:00–20:00 daily in peak season (May–October), but a 23:40 arrival gets the same name board as a midday one — because we track the flight, a late landing never loses a booking. If your plane is delayed, we simply wait; there is no late fee and no re-booking needed.

Is there an airport surcharge?

No. Meet & greet at DBV costs exactly the same as pickup at our Gruž office in the city — €0 extra. Many international brands add a premium location fee at the airport; we do not, because the airport is where most of our guests start their trip.

What are the rules for young drivers?

You can rent from age 21 with a license held at least 2 years. Drivers under 25 pay a €7/day young-driver fee, and the SUV, convertible, and van classes require a minimum age of 23. One legal point worth knowing: Croatia enforces a zero-tolerance 0.0‰ alcohol limit for drivers under 25 (0.5‰ for everyone else), and the Croatian Auto Club (HAK) publishes current road conditions and traffic rules in English. Speed limits are 50 km/h in towns, 90 km/h on open roads, 110 km/h on expressways, and 130 km/h on motorways.

Quick answers

How much does car rental cost from Dubrovnik Airport?

High-season rates run from €39/day for an economy Fiat Panda up to €129/day for a 9-seater van, all-inclusive. Low-season (November–April) prices are roughly 30–40% lower.

Is airport pickup free?

Yes. Meet & greet at DBV arrivals costs €0 — no airport surcharge, no desk fee, no shuttle. The price you see at booking is the price you pay.

What happens if my flight is delayed?

Nothing changes and nothing extra is charged. We track every arriving flight, so if you land 3 hours late we are still at arrivals with your name board.

Do I need to leave a deposit?

Not for economy class — our €39/day cars carry no deposit at all. Other classes hold €200–400 on a credit or debit card, released in full after the car comes back.

Do I need an International Driving Permit in Croatia?

Not for EU, UK, or US licenses on stays under 30 days. For US and Canadian visitors an IDP is recommended but not enforced; a license printed in Latin script is accepted.
